Box Office Report: Transformers Debuts #1, Breaks Records

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen debuted #1 this weekend and broke records in the process. The film earned $112 million and $201.2 million since opening Wednesday, with the highest per theater average of any film in the top ten at $26,453 per theater. The film set a new record for Wednesday gross, with $60.6 million, is now the second fastest movie ever to $200 million by getting there in just five days (behind Dark Knight), and had the second biggest four day opening ever with $166.6 million (behind The Dark Knight’s $182.9 million). The film is also already the third highest grossing film of 2009, behind Up ($250.2 million) and Star Trek ($246.2 million). The film has also already earned $80.1 million overseas for a total gross of $281.4 million. The film had a budget of $200 million.
The Proposal fell one spot to #2 this weekend with $18.4 million, raising its two week total to $69 million. The film had a budget of $40 million.
The Hangover fell one spot to #3 this week with $17.2 million, raising its four week total to $183.2 million. The film had a budget of $35 million.
Up fell one spot to #3 this week with $13 million, raising its five week total to $250.2 million. The film had a budget of $175 million.
My Sisters Keeper debuted at #5, earning $12 million.
Year One fell two spots to #6 this week, earning $5.8 million and raising its two week total to $32 million. The film had a budget of $60 million.
The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 fell two spots to #7 this week, earning $5.4 million and raising its three week total to $53 million. The film had a budget of $100 million.
Star Trek fell one spot to #8 this week, earning $3.6 million and raising its six week total to $246.2 million. The film had a budget of $150 million.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian fell three spots to $3.5 million and raising its six week total to $163.2 million. The film had a budget of $150 million.
Away We Go rounded out the top 10, jumping three spots up to #10, earning $1.6 million, and raising its four week total to $4 million. The film had a budget of $17 million.
