Wolverine 2 Update

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner talked to IGN yesterday about the sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Donner confirmed that the script for the sequel is in the works but wouldn’t confirm that director Gavin Hood would be back.

“You know, we’re just going to get the script right first,” she said when asked about Hood. “A little extra polish. … We’re very excited. It’s going to be a great script.”

Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) is writing the script which will be about the story of Wolverine in Japan. The story was intended to be used in the first film but Fox requested an origin story.

“Well, they had a reason for that,” Donner explained. “They wanted to make sure that we weren’t just taking for granted that people saw the X-Men trilogy, we didn’t take for granted that people were coming into the movie and knew who Wolverine was. And they felt that they needed to lay that basement, that framework, by doing this movie.”

She also said that she wants the film to stay as true to the comics as possible, but that it isn’t up to her and that a lot of people are involved in the creative process.

“And there’s other factors and other voices,” she continued. “Gavin said that he wanted, for example, [in the first film] to show Logan’s backstory about his father and to understand for him as a director why the character is motivated. And he chose to show Victor Creed as the half-brother because it would help this conflict. So there are many factors. I unfortunately do not make the movie alone. Or fortunately!”
