As predicted, Michael Jackson’s death made giant waves on the Billboard charts this week. He collectively sold over 415,000 albums since last Thursday.

Jackson’s albums are ineligible to appear on the Billboard 200 chart because they are more than 18 months old and have fallen past the #100 spot. However, three of Jackson’s albums (Number Ones, The Essential and Thriller) moved more copies than this week’s #1 on the Billboard 200 - The Black Eyed Peas’ The E.N.D.. That is a first in Billboard chart history.

Here’s a summary:

Top Pop Catalog Albums:

#1 - Michael Jackson - Number Ones (108,000)
#2 - Michael Jackson - The Essential Michael Jackson (102,000)
#3 - Michael Jackson - Thriller (101,000)
#4 - Michael Jackson - Off The Wall (33,000)
#5 - The Jackson 5 - The Ultimate Collection (18,000)

Elsewhere, The Essential Michael Jackson is #1 on the Top Digital Albums Chart. Jackson holds the top four spots on that chart, with six albums overall in the Top 10.

25 Michael Jackson and Jackson 5 songs appear on the Hot Digital Songs chart - the most ever for an artist. Highest is “Thriller”, which is #2 behind the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”. “Thriller” saw a 3,551% jump in digital sales alone this week. “Man In The Mirror”, “Billie Jean”, “The Way You Make Me Feel”, “Beat It” and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” are also in the Top 10.

The digital sales makes Michael Jackson the first artist to ever move over a million downloads in a week.

It’s estimated that “Billie Jean” saw 4,540 plays at radio this week, as well.
